A 1895 edition of this work, covering seasons 1895 to 1896, in the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial gilt to the front board.
Bookplate of Richard Green to the front free endpaper. Previous owners' ink inscriptions to the half title page, one dated 1895. Four newspaper cuttings tipped in to the verso of the half title page and to the verso of the frontispiece, showing the pedigree of Rockdove (1891), Laveno (1892), Teufel (1893) and Canterbury Pilgrim (1893). Six cuttings tipped in to the verso of the rear free end paper and two letters to tipped in to the verso of the last page.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and seven further plates, four retaining their tissue guards. Collated, complete.
The Horse-Breeder's Handbook for the seasons 1895 to 1896 by Joseph Osborne, who often wrote under the pen name "Beacon" and was a journalist for Bell's Life of London. Osborne was considered an authority of the breeding of thoroughbreds.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart, with a little shelf wear to the extremities. Small horizontal tear to the cloth to the tail of the spine. Hinges are slightly strained but remain firmly held by cords. Plates facing page 25 and page 154 are detached but intact. Otherwise, internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean.
