First edition. Scarce work. With thirteen plates. Collated complete. A souvenir for those attending the play 'King Arthur' by J. Comyns Carr as at its first performance on 12th January 1895. This work includes a list of all cast, scenery, and illustrations of key scenes. At this time, King Arthur was played by Henry Irving, an English stage actor of the Victorian era, known as an actor-manager for taking responsibility of supervising all parts of the productions for season after season at the West End's Lyceum Theatre. The play was written by Joseph William Comyns Carr, an English drama and art critic, author, poet and playwright. Carr also wrote essays, books, plays, librettos, English-language adaptations of foreign works and stage adaptations of Dickens novels and classic tales like 'King Arthur' and 'Faust'.
Condition
In the original illustrated paper binding. Externally, sound with slight rubbing and chipping to the boards. A few marks to the rear board. Boards detached. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Contemporary ink inscription to the title page.
