A scarce first edition copy. Part of the publisher's, 'Ex-Libris' series, edited by Gleeson White. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with gilt lettering. With an engraved frontispiece, nine full page plates of which one is in colour, and numerous monochrome illustrations throughout. Collated complete. A delightful work regarding the history of women's book-plates, drawing attention to those ex-libris which have prominent owners, and noteworthy designs. A fascinating read for collectors and book-lovers alike. With a beautiful engraved bookplate for one, 'Alice Marcy Dumas', designed by Sydney Vacher inserted into the book. The half title page is present. With a bookplate for one, 'Harry Percy Boord', to the front paste-down and one for, 'Mary Ethel Margaret Copeman', to the front free endpaper.
Condition
In the publisher's full cloth binding. Externally, smart with some shelf wear to the extremities. Closed tears and fraying to the spine. Spine is faded. A few light marks to the boards. Hinges are strained but firm. Bookplate to the front paste-down and one to the front free endpaper. Offsetting to the front free endpaper. Light spotting to the rear paste-down and free endpaper. Internally, binding slightly strained but still firmly bound. Scattered spots throughout, but otherwise pages bright and clean. Age-toning to the plates.
