Symonds wrote a number of biographies of writers and artists, and these often reflected his interest in the Renaissance, which is demonstrated in this work. Boccaccio extolled the virtues of intelligence and with in his Decameron, which might be considered the virtues of metropolitan Renaissance Italy. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist.

Condition

In the original cloth. Externally very smart, with just a little wear to the extremities and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The text block is untrimmed and a little dusty at the edges as a result. With a personal bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, clean and bright and firmly bound.
