A very scarce fourth edition. In the original green pictorial cloth binding with gilt detail. With a frontispiece and seven engraved plates by Walter Paget. Collated complete. An adventure novel about the Mahdist War in Sudan. Written by the author, and former colonel in the British Army, Lewis Hough. Hough is known for his three volume novel, 'William Bathurst'. and his book for boys, 'Dr. Jolliffe's Boys: A Tale of Weston School'. With a prize bookplate for Collegiate School, dated 1899, to the front paste-down. With publisher's advertisements to the rear of the book.
Condition
In the original cloth binding with gilt detail. Externally, smart with some shelf wear to the extremities and bumping to the spine. Light marks to the boards. Hinges slightly strained but still firm. Prize bookplate to the front paste-down. Light offsetting to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Binding worn towards the centre of the book but still firm. Pages generally bright and clean with a few scattered spots, heavier on the frontispiece tissue guard.
