'A History of the English People' is a historical work by John Richard Green, that is 'a history, not of English Kings or English Conquests, but of English people'. It was originally published in as a 'Short History', after Green was given six months to live, and published in four longer volumes once he realised that he had more time to expand upon his work. 

Contents detail the years of Early England from 449-1071, to Modern England (1760-1815). 

Volume I has one folding map and four colour plates. 

Volume II has two colour plates.

Volume VI has four pages of full-page black-and-white illustrations. 

Volume VII has one colour plate. 

Volume VIII has one colour plate and two colour folding maps.

Collated, complete. 


Condition

Prize binding, bound in full-crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf. Externally, smart. Leather is unusually bright with only very light discolouration to spine. A few marks to boards, and minimal bumping to tail of spines. Rubbed to front board of Vol. I, around the band of joint. Vol. IV is rubbed close to tail of spine and to bottom-edge of front board. Prize bookplate to front pastedown of Vol. I. Stamps to rear paste downs. Internally, firmly bound, with very clean pages throughout. Light age-toning to margins. Colour plates are very bright and clean, as are folding maps.
