What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
The first and only edition.
Twelve admiralty charts for the tidal streams on the West Coast of Scotland, written by F. Howard Collins.
Text is comprised entirely of illustrations, with twelve maps engraved from 'the one published by order of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty'. Collins added two thousand seven hundred arrows to the maps in order to represent the tidal currents from Cape Wrath to Wigton Bay at different times of day. He also included directions on how to use the charts.
Admiralty charts are nautical charts created with the primary aim of protecting and saving lives at sea. The core market for these charts are defence and merchant ships, who used, and continue to use, these maps in order to predict tide depths.
Fredrick Howard Collins (1857-1910) was a British indexer and writer, best known for his work on the 'Authors' and Printers' Dictionary' in 1905.
