What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Very Scarce
Very scarce, privately printed in 1894.
Bound in a full paper-vellum binding.
This is a copy of the 'Valhalla' steam yacht's log from its maiden voyage in 1893. Led by Captain J. F. Laycock, who was the yacht's owner, the crew embarked from Southampton for Madeira, Constantinople, The Black Sea, and Sevastopol.
Following this voyage, Laycock had the firmo f Horace Cox privately publish this work. The text covers the voyage in detail, giving information on the list of idlers on board, the amount of time and distance taken for each section of the journey, as well as the daily ship log.
The 'Valhalla' steam yacht was the only yacht to carry a full ship rig.
J. F. Laycock (1867-1952), was a British Army officer and Olympic sailor, as well as a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes. He was the person to commision Ramage & Ferguson to build the 'Valhalla' steam yacht.
