Interestingly also discussing prominent historical events such as the Opium Wars, as well as architecture, slavery in the country, food and dress, infanticide, foreign trade, religions, entertainments, and more. Overall offering a complete study of the county in this era.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, and twenty-one plates.
Collated, complete.
Written by the oriental scholar Robert Kennedy Douglas, who worked in China from 1858 to 1865.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, a little faded to the spine, joints, and extremities. Some marks to the boards and spine. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Frontispiece is detaching to the head.
