Thomson was an Irish illustrator, who did pen-and-ink illustrations for editions of works by Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and J. M. Barrie.

Jane Austen has become one of the most popular Georgian writers, her novels being loved for generations. Her ironic social commentary offers an interesting insight into Upper-Middle class Georgian life. Her other novels are 'Emma', 'Sense and Sensibility', 'Northanger Abbey', 'Mansfield Park', and 'Persuasion'.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Very light rubbing to the gilt. Only a few light marks to the cloth, mostly to the rear board. Bookseller's label to the front paste down. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just a couple of scattered spots. Closed tear to the tissue guard to the frontispiece.
