Written by Charles Alexander Johns (1811-1874), an English botanist and priest. This work ran more than fifty editions, such was its popularity. It describes the plants of Britain, with their common and Latin names and their uses. The author also published a number of works on botany and natural history, such as 'Forest Trees of Britain', 'Sea Weeds' and 'The Cottage Flower Garden'. 

Contains over two hundred engravings based on watercolours.

With an appendix on grasses.

Condition

In a decorative full cloth binding. Externally very smart, minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Gift inscription to the title page and endpaper. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean.
