Esther Waters is set in Victorian England and shares the story of a working class woman who falls pregnant and decides to raise her child as a single mother. It follows the trend of Victorian novels featuring the 'fallen woman' protagonist.
George Moore was an Irish novelist, short story writer and poet. This is one of his most notable works, alongside 'Confessions of a Young Man'.

Rebound. Externally, smart. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The spine is slightly faded and there is a light mark to the front board. The hinges are strained but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription from 1918 to the first free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the odd spot.
