Priapus was the Greek God of fertility, male genitalia, protector of livestock, fruit plants, and gardens. This work shocked the public when it was published, to the result that the author himself tried to suppress the book. Illustrated with forty plates. Written by Richard Payne Knight. Knight was a classical scholar and numismatist. This was his first work. Collated, complete.

In a half morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. A little wear to the spine label. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
