An extensive book of recipes by Lizzie Heritage. The first edition, a scarce work. 

Cassell's New Universal Cookery Book is comprised of over one-thousand leaves of recipes ranging from Hors d'Oeuvres, to stocks and soups, gravies and sauces, entrees, meat dishes, beverages, and to dessert and table decoration. With a chapter on the management and duties of servants by Phyllis Browne. 

Collated, complete with twelve coloured plates as well as further in-text illustrations, six leaves of advertisements to endpapers, as well as sixteen leaves of publisher's catalogue to rear.

Condition

In the original publisher's quarter calf binding over cloth covered boards. Externally sound with some shelf wear, rubbed to head and tail of spine, back strip lightly rubbed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
