Limited Edition, number forty-five of fifty. Madame de Staël or Anne Louise Germaine de Staël-Holstein, was known as a witty woman, who often work flamboyant and revealing outfits. A successful writer she was known for writing both novels and travel literature. A influential member of society, her intellect and charm gives her work prowess. This particular work, 'Corinne, or Italy' is one that discusses the female artist, female creativity, and the differing attitudes between England and Italy. Acquired from a sale of the publisher J.M Dent's reference library, with this works being 'File Copies'. With 'File Copy' stamps to several leaves. Joseph Malaby Dent was a British book publisher best known for the Everyman's library series. With six tipped-in illustrations across the two volumes. Each illustration has a tissue-guard. Collated complete.
Condition
In full cloth binding. Externally smart. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine, alongside some rubbing. Spotting to the front and rear boards of each volume. Agetoning to the topedge, the foredge and to the bottomedge. Offsetting to the front and rear endpapers and pastedowns. Stamp to the front endpaper of each volume. Internally, gernally firmly bound, though straine din some places. The off handling mark throughout, otherwise pages are bright and clean. Some pages towards the end of Volume I are uncut, some to the topedge and some to the foredge.
