What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

Three attractive first editions, uniformly bound.

Present here are three publications from the Scottish Historical Society, the first being vol. 16, 'The Account Book of Sir John Foulis of Ravelston 1671-1707', published in 1894. The preface to this work explains that in containing the accounts of one individual, rather than of a public body, 'it is specially valuable as throwing light on social life in Scotland two hundred years ago', and is arguably a more interesting source in looking at a person than their own diary.

The second work here is vol. 28, 'The Compt Buik of David Wedderburne Merchant of Dundee 1587-1630', published in 1898. Also present within this volume are the Shipping Lists of Dundee, 1580-1618. This work is credited as 'the first book issued which contains authentic details of the imports, exports, and home trade at a busy Scottish seaport' during this period.

The final work is vol. 55, 'Ochtertyre House Booke of Accomps 1737-1739', 1907, and contains the account books of the Baronial Murray family during this period.

These are ex-library editions, each bearing an Ealing Public Libraries bookplate to the front pastedown.
