The Hare (1896) has its 'Natural History' section written by Rev. H A Macpherson, 'Shooting' by the Hon Gerald Lascelles, 'Coursing' by Charles Richardson, 'Hunting' by J S Gibbons and G H Longman and 'Cookery' by Col. Kenney Herbert. 'The Grouse' (1894) has its 'Natural History' by Rev H A Macpherson, 'Shooting' by A J Stuart-Wortley and 'Cookery' by George Saintsbury. 'The Partridge' (1894) has its 'Natural History' by Rev H A Macpherson, 'Shooting' by A J Stuart-Wortley and 'Cookery' by George Saintsbury. 'The Salmon' (1898) has its 'Natural History' by Rev H A Macpherson, 'The Law of Salmon Fishing' by Claud Douglas Pennant' and 'Cookery' by Alexander Innes Shand. 'The Pheasant' (1895) has its 'Natural History' by Rev H A Macpherson, 'Shooting' by A J Stuart-Wortley and 'Cookery' by Alexander Innes Shand 'The Trout' (1904) is a New Impression and has its natural history by the Marquess of Granby, its 'Breeding' by Colonel F H Custance and 'Cookery' by Alexander Innes Shand. All volumes but 'The Trout' have the prior owner's inscription to the half-title. 'The Partridge' has several newspaper articles on hunting this particular fowl loosely inserted to the rear. Contents pages to 'The Trout' have been removed by a previous owner.

Condition

In uniform full cloth bindings. Externally, smart with just some minor bumping to the head and tail of spines and to the extremities. Light rubbing to the spines, resulting in the red lettering to spines to fade slightly. Pasted to the recto of front endpaper of all volumes but 'Trout' is a small saying clipped from a newspaper regarding lending books. Blind stamp to the front endpapers for W H Smith and Son. Prior owner's inscription to the half-title of all but 'Trout' volume, R J Ratcliff. Gift inscription to the verso of front endpaper to 'Trout' from an individual named Clifford. 'The Pheasant', 'The Trout' and 'The Hare' are firmly bound. The remaining three volumes have some straining to binding. Pages are generally bright. Occasional pencil annotation and underlining to all volumes by a previous owner. Scattered spotting throughout all volumes, slightly heavier to 'The Hare', 'The Partridge' and 'The Pheasant'. All volumes have slightly heavier spotting to the first and last few pages.
