    The first edition of this work.

    Complete in three volumes.

    A biography on the lives of the sisters Charlotte Canning, Countess Canning, and Louisa Beresford, Marchioness of Waterford.

    Both sisters were artists, both working in watercolour.

    Beresford was a Pre-Raphaelite artist, tutored by both Dante Gabriel Rossetti and John Ruskin.

    Canning spent most of her adult in India, as her husband was the Governor-General of India.

    Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, twelve plates, and many in-text engravings. Collated, complete.

    Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, eight plates, and many in-text engravings. Collated, complete.

    Volume III illustrated with a frontispiece, seventeen plates, and many in-text engravings. Collated, complete.

    Bookplate to the front pastedowns, 'Charles Frederick Pretor-Pinney'.

    Condition

    In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Some minor marks to the boards and spines. Hinges are starting but firm. Bookplate to the front pastedowns. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot. Page 373 to 280 of Volume I detached but present.
