1893 The Great Betrayal: or, The Invasion of East Anglia; The Retrospect of a Gladstonian M.P.
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, Very Scarce
The second edition of this work in the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps.
This sketch, written by an anonymous Gladstonian M.P., was designed to teach the electorate the dangers of Home Rule. The 1893 Government of Ireland Bill, which was the second attempt of Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone to enact Home Rule for Ireland, passed through the Commons but was defeated in the House of Lords.
This work tells the story of the invasion of East Anglia by Ireland, after having been granted Home Rule, and the consequent failure of the British Empire. At the time of publication, many M.P.s felt that this sketch showed a possible future.
Condition
In the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. Externally, generally smart. A little creasing to the front of the wrap, with small losses to the bottom corner. Faint marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
