What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Scarce
The second revised edition of this scarce work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Ink inscription to the title page. Sir Flinders Petrie (1853-1942) was a British Egyptologist and a pioneer of systematic methodology in archaeology and the preservation of artefacts. His most famous discoveries are the Merneptah Stele, and the Proto-Sinaitic script, the ancestor of almost all alphabetic scripts. This volume gives an overview of Petrie's excavations in Egypt between 1881 and 1891, from his survey of Giza to his excavations of the burials in Medum, illustrated with numerous sketches of his finds. There are also chapters on 'the art of excavation', understanding the Egyptian people, and travelling in Egypt. A page of advertisements to the rear.
