In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bookplate to front paste down. Frontispiece and 5 further plates of beautiful illustrations by C. M. Gere. Collated complete. This volume contains 24 charming Russian skazki (or fairy tales) from the work of Pyotr Polevoy (1839-1902), who selected and reworked tales from those which Afanasiev collected. Polevoy was an eminent Russian writer, playwright, translator, critic, editor and literary historian.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally in excellent condition, with just a little fading to the spine. Internally, binding is slightly strained between pages 131 and 146. Pages are generally clean, except for the odd handling mark, and a scattering of spots to the fore edge and to the first and last pages. Offsetting to the free end papers. Closed tear to page 81. Plate facing page 160 is starting to detach.
