What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated

The first edition of this work in a quarter cloth binding with pictorial boards.

Previous owner's ink inscription to the front paste down, and to pages 13 and 14.

Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and three further colour plates by the notable military artist Harry Payne (1858-1927). Collated, complete.

Lt. Colonel John Percy Groves (1850-1916) wrote adventure stories and information books for boys, as well as books on military history, mostly about the Scottish regiments.

In this work, which is the second volume of the Illustrated Histories of the Scottish Regiments Series, Groves provides a history of the 2nd Dragoons (the Royal Scots Greys) between 1678 and 1893. To the rear are appendices which relate to officers and their status over the years.

Condition

In a quarter cloth binding with pictorial boards. Externally generally smart, with a scattering of marks and spots to the boards. Significant loss to the backstrip, with a small loss to the head of the backstrip, and a couple of small tears. Binding is slightly strained between pages 6 and 7, and pages 14 and 15, with webbing showing, but the binding is generally firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot, more so to the end papers and to page 8.
