A later edition of Charles Kinglsely's historical adventure novel concerning the Anglo-Saxon resistance to the Norman Conquest, in a full calf school prize binding.

Kinglsey's novel follows the historical Anglo-Saxon figure Hereward as he leads the resistance against the Normans from a base in Ely.

First published in 1866, this was Kingsley's final historical novel, and was instrumental in elevating Hereward into an English folk-hero.

With a prize bookplate of Malvern College to the front pastedown, awarding the work to S.R. James.

In a full calf school prize binding. Fading to back strip, with rubbing to front board. Boards bright and clean. Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
