Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. With 214 vignette illustrations by Hugh Thomson and Herbert Railton. Limited edition, number 92 of 150 copies of the large paper edition printed August 1893. Therefore, a first thus. A description of and anecdotes regarding the major coach routes across England and Ireland. Chapters include 'The Bath Road', 'The Exeter Road', 'The Portsmouth Road', 'The Brighton Road', 'The Dover Road', 'The York Road', and 'The Holyhead Road.' The text looks at the history of the coachways, and their conditions from as early as the 1600s. William Outram Tristram (1859-1915) was born in Bombay, India. He attended Winchester and Merton college at Oxford, however did not obtain a degree. He produced several fictional novels such as Julian Trevor as well as plays and his non fiction works.
Condition
In original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spine and some browning to paper spine label. Small library label to the front pastedown, Case Ia shelf 2. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to the endpapers but otherwise very bright and clean throughout.
