Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding, Prize Binding, Signed Binding

The 1893 edition of nonconformist clergyman and biographer Andrew Kippis's study of the life and voyages of Captain James Cook, in a full calf school prize binding, signed by Bickers.

Kippis includes accounts of Cook's three voyages – 1768–1771, 1772–1775, and 1776–1779 – as well as a study of the character of the British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain, the effects of his voyages, and a commentary on his services.

Illustrated with twelve plates 'reproduced in exact facsimile from drawings made during the voyages'. Collated, complete.

With a prize bookplate from Charterhouse School to the front pastedown, dated 1912.

A detailed and insightful biography of perhaps this pioneering navigator, who famously vowed to sail 'as far as I think it possible for man to go'.
