Romola, originally published 1863. A historical novel set in the fifteenth century seen as a study of life in the city of Florence during the Italian Renaissance. With illustrated title page, collated complete. Felix Holt, original published 1866. A social novel following the political disputes of a small English town at the time of the First Reform Act of 1832. Illustrated with seven plates, collated complete. Middlemarch, originally published 1871-72. Set in Middlemarch, a fictional English Midland town, following intersecting stories with many characters. Exploring themes of women, marriage, idealism, religion, political reform, and education. With illustrated title page, collated complete. Daniel Deronda, originally published 1876. The last of Eliot's novels and the only one set in the Victorian society of her day. A mixture of social satire and moral searching, though its sympathetic rendering of Jewish proto-Zionist ideas has made it a controversial statement piece. With illustrated title page, collated complete.
