1892 The First Crossing of Greenland
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Folding Maps, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
The first single volume abridged edition of Norwegian polymath and explorer Fridtjof Nansen's account account of his time leading the team that made the first crossing of the Greenland interior in 1888, traversing the island on cross-country skis.
Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, folding colour map, and numerous in-text illustrations and photographs.
Translated into English by Hubert Majendie Gepp.
This newer edition of Nansen's work has been condensed into a single volume, edited with little effect to the narrative, retaining Nansen's account of his voyage but excluding some of his general observations regarding 'subsidiary matters'.
With the illustrated bookplate of Car Jac Longman to the front pastedown.
A thrilling first person narrative of the perilous first crossing of Greenland.
