First Edition, Folding Maps, Publishers' Original Binding, Uncommon
A first edition of Admiral William Kennedy's account of bird and animal hunting on the South East coast of South America. With numerous full page illustrations, and a folding map. Comprised of twenty five chapters, this uncommon volume offers a brief history of the countries that comprise the Continent before elaborating on the sporting life of regions such as The Falkland Islands, Patagonia, The Welsh Colony of Chupat, Rio Parana, Asuncion in Paraguay, Rio de Janeiro, and Trinidad. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. The book previously belonged to 'A. J. Wigmore'. With an institutional stamp to the title page dated 13th April 92. The stamp appears to be from an Oxford library, but the has been rubbed. With two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear.
Condition
In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, joints, and the spine. A little bumped and rubbed to the head and tail of the spine, with a couple of closed tears to each. Lightly bumped to the extremities, with some minor wear. The front hinge is starting, and a little tender, and the rear hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light foxing to the front of the volume, pages are generally bright and clean.
