A historical novel telling the story of the early life of the hero Umslopogaas, the unacknowledged son of the great Zulu king and general Chaka. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre.
At the rear of the work is twenty-four pages of publisher's advertisements and catalog dated 50,000 - 6/92.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt lettered spine. Externally, smart. Scattered water staining to boards and the odd mark. Light shelf wear to extremities. Rubbing to front board. Bumping and minor chipping to head and tail of spine. Toning to spine. Cracking to joints, but binding remains firm. Faint offsetting to end papers and the odd spot. Internally, generally firmly bound. Hinges mildly strained but are sound. Pages are generally bright and clean with scattered spotting. Ink inscription to page 3. Loss to title page, not affecting readability, and closed tear to tissue guard.
