The Verney family have resided in the manor of Middle Claydon in Buckinghamshire since the 1460s. This biographical account of the family was compiled from letters and documents at Claydon House, providing a detailed exploration of one family's involvement in this important part of English history.

Volumes I and II were written by Frances Parthenope Verney, the elder sister of Florence Nightingale. She married Harry Verney, the 2nd Baronet, in 1858. Volumes III and IV were written by her daughter-in-law, Margaret Verney, who married Sir Edmund Hope Verney in 1868.

Volume I is illustrated with a frontispiece, one folding plate, one folding genealogy, twelve plates, and in-text illustrations. Twenty-four pages of adverts to the rear. Collated, complete.

Volume II is illustrated with a frontispiece, twelve plates, and in-text illustrations. Collated, lacking page 85/86. Two pages of adverts to the rear.
