A historical novel by Charles Kingsley based on the Preston Somers Expedition and Raleigh's El Dorado Expedition, where a group of Victorian privateers set sail for the New World.

The novel was the inspiration behind the naming of Devon village Westward Ho!, and it was the first novel to be adapted for radio for the BBC. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author.

Condition

Rebound in half calf over marbled boards, with titles in gilt to morocco spine label, marbled edges and endpapers, five raised bands. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, lightly rubbed to head and tail of spine and extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean.
