‘The Standard Cantata’ was one book in George Upton’s series looking at the history of character of music. This series included two other books, ‘The Standard Oratorios’ and ‘The Standard Symphonies’. ‘Cantata’ takes a look at some of the famous vocal compositions by some of the greatest composers of all time. These include ‘Ein’ Feste Burg’ by Bach, ‘The Ruins of Athens’ by Beethoven, ‘Acis and Galatea’ by Handel’, ‘The Bells of Strasburg’ by Liszt, and ‘Oedipus at Colonos’ by Mendelssohn. With a library plate to the recto of the front endpaper from Hampshire County Library, and further library stamps to the verso of the title page from Hampshire Country Library and Winchester Public Library. Library stamp to pages 50 and 367, however doesn’t affect any text.
Condition
In a half morocco binding with marbled paper boards. Externally smart. Minor discoloration to the spine and calf to the front board, possibly from some sellotape that’s been taken off. With a library plate to the recto of the front endpaper from Hampshire County Library. Security label to the rear pastedown. Pen mark to the bottom edge, however doesn’t affect any pages. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean. Library stamps to the verso of the title page from Hampshire Country Library and Winchester Public Library. Library stamp to pages 50 and 367 from Winchester Public Library , however doesn’t affect any text.
