A detailed anthropological study from the author's travels across Northern China, with chapters on peasantry, characteristics, home life, diseases and medicine, missionaries and their work, business, politics, and future prospects. Written by Robert Coltman, an American physician. Publisher's advertisements to the rear.

Condition

Rebacked with the original brown cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light fraying to the extremities. Minor loss to the board edges. The odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound with hinges sympathetically reinforced with cloth tape. Pages are bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Sympathetic repairs made with tape to the edges of some pages, with further repairs to closed tears across page 113/114. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
