What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

The first trade edition of this novel from British textile designer, writer, and artist William Morris, following a large paper limited edition copy.

Initially serialised in the 'Commonweal' journal in January 1890, this is a fascinating 'soft' science fiction novel, with pioneering socialist Morris exploring themes of utopian socialism, with Morris using the work to tackle the common criticisms of socialism,  and explore a number of aspects of Victorian society.

With the armorial bookplate of Solicitor and Chairman of the Kensington, Fulham and Chelsea General Hospital, Robert Ellis Cunliffe, to the front pastedown.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to first and last few leaves, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright.
