In the publisher's original cloth binding. An association copy, with an ink inscription from to the head of the title page from the author's sister addressing Emily France, it reads 'Emily France with affectionate good wishes for Christmas 1894, from Margaret M. Verney'. This work features a vast collection of poetry, essays and anecdotes by Frances Parthenope, the noted 19th century writer, who contributed frequently to publications such as Fraser's Magazine, Macmillan's Magazine and Cornhill Magazine. Many of the essays feature in this volume have reprint from these periodicals. A vast and expansive work features essays on a variety of subjects with essay titles including: Female Education in France; Class Morality; Siz Generations of Czars; The Queen's Golden Wedding With Her People; The Dignity of Labour; Folding and Packing of Leaf Buds; A Raid and A Rescue in South Africa, among many others. In total this work features 41 articles and several poems.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and light patches of rubbing to the extremities. Light spots to the fore edge. Offsetting to the front and rear endpapers, with spotting to the front blank. Internally firmly bound. Page are bright and clean with the occasional spot.
