    Description

    Early Edition, Folding Maps, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Signed Binding

    Early editions of this set of works from the English Men of Action Series published by Macmillan and Co. in Hatchards signed half vellum bindings and cloth boards. 

    Includes twenty two volumes bound in eleven; two volumes to each book. There are two monochrome plates to each book as the frontispiece for each volume. 

    From the library of Sir William Eden Bart, 7th Baronet, a British politician and father to Anthony Eden, the British Prime Minister 1955-1957. Indicated by his book plate to the pastedown of each volume. 

    Includes the following works:

    Henry the Fifth (1891) by A. J. Church bound with Warwick the Kingmaker by Charles W. Oman.

    Lord Strafford (1893) by H. D. Trail bound with Peterborough (1890) by William Stebbing.

    Monk (1899) by Julian Corbett bound with Montrose (1892) by Mowbray Morris.

    Wolfe (1895) by A. G. Bradley bound with Sir Charles Napier by Colonel Sir William F. Butler (1894).

    Sir Frances Drake (1898) by Julian Corbett bound with Captain Cook (1894) by Walter Besant.

    David Livingstone (1897) by Thomas Hughes bound with Charles George Gordon (1897) by Colonel Sir William F. Butler. This work includes a folding colour map.

    Colin Campbell Lord Clyde (1895) by Archibald Forbes bound with Havelock (1897) by the same author. Prior owner's pencil annotations throughout the text. 

    Dundonald (1895) J. W. Fortescue bound with Nelson (1895) by John Knox Laughton.

    Lord Lawrence (1893) by Sir Richard Temple bound with Wellington (1899) by George Hooper.

    Lord Clive (1893) by Colonel Sir Charles Wilson bound with Warren Hastings (1894) by Sir Alfred Lyall includes a colour map.

    Condition

    In half vellum binding and cloth boards. Externally, very smart. Only some minor bumping to the heads and tails of the spines and to the extremities. Prior owner's book plate to the pastedowns of each volume. Internally, firmly bound. 'Colin Campbell' has pencil annotations throughout. Otherwise, the pages are bright and clean.
