A first edition with 40 full colour lithograph plates. Collated, complete.

The work of Scottish landscape artist, illustrator and lithographer William Gibb, who specialised in the creation of lithographs of relics and artefacts. His works are now found in countless galleries and museums throughout Britain.

John Skelton, Scottish lawyer and author, provides the introduction of this work, giving a detailed overview of the Stuart dynasty. At various times the royal household of Scotland, England, Ireland and Great Britain, members of this family were monarchs of different regions at numerous points from 1371 to 1741.

Each plate is accompanied by informative and descriptive passages from antiquary Sir William Henry St John Hope.

To the front pastedown is the bookplate of 'E. L. Radford', and former owners inscription, 'D. L. Cumming'.

Condition

In the publisher's original half calf binding with paper vellum covered boards. There are marks to the paper vellum, and rubbing to the leather portion. This is most concentrated to the spine head and tail, and joints. To the front pastedown is a bookplate and former owner's inscription. Internally, firmly bound. Some spotting to the first and last few pages, but pages are otherwise clean and bright throughout.
