First edition. The Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes. Illustrated with a frontispiece and eleven plates, and many woodcuts in the text. Collated complete. A detailed guide to tennis and other racket sports including lawn tennis, rackets, and fives with historical commentary on each of the games up to the modern rules and regulations. Written by John Moyer Heathcote, an English barrister and real tennis player, Charles Gilbert Heathcote, an English barrister and tennis player, E. O. P.-Bouverie, and Arthur Campbell Ainger, an English assistant master at Eton College. Illustrated by Lucien Davis and Charles M. Newton, British artists and illustrators.

Condition

In the original brown pictorial cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot and minor age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
