The French language edition of this work, translated from the French by E. Dadre. Scarce in all editions.

Part travelogue, part history of Ancient Egypt, this work is illustrated throughout - with vignette and full plate illustrations - in pen and pencil by the author, Reverend Samuel Manning, and many other artists, including mountaineer and explorer Edward Whymper.

Manning produced a number of such works in his lifetime, illustrated by numerous different artists, and concerned with multiple locations, both in Europe and beyond.

To the front pastedown of this work is a prize bookplate dated 1900, awarding the work to 'John Rondel' of the 'Ecole du Dimanche Methodiste Wesleyenne'.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Boards bright, but with significant discolouration to spine. Bumping to spine head and tail. Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a little age-toned, but generally clean.
