What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

First edition, second issue, with page 47, line 1 misspelled "Chstian religion", as called for, and with the second issue printer McCorqdale & Co, rather than the first issue printer, William Burgess. The final line of the dedication appears in the correct font size.

Illustrated with a bright full colour chromolithograph folding frontispiece, this work from the founder of the Salvation Army discusses the problems of poverty, addiction, slavery, unemployment, and homelessness in England, and means of solving these problems.

Lacking the loosely inserted Salvation Army subscription leaf. With six pages of advertisements to the rear, and an inscription, dated 1891, to the front free endpaper.

A fascinating social study examining the poverty and vice of England, providing a detailed programme of action that was put into action by Booth's Salvation Army.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Sticker residue to centre of back strip. Contemporary inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
