Written by William Henry Giles Kingston, a prolific writer of adventure novels for boys. His works were often set at sea or in exciting foreign places. He also wrote accounts of real voyages and discoveries all over the world. 

With a prize bookplate awarded from Wisbech Barton School to E. C. Dobson for Latin dated 1891.

Illustrated with one hundred illustrations throughout, including a frontispiece portrait of Stanley.

A lovely later impression, with this work first appearing in 1874.

Condition

In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart; a little bumped to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, binding is generally firm; a slight strain to the front hinge. Pages are occasionally a touch spotted.
