Janos de Asboth first published this work in the original German in 1888. This is the first authorised English edition. A full account of the author's observations of his travels, as well as of the history, antiquities, agrarian conditions, religion, ethnology, folk lore, and social life of the people living in Bosnia and Herzegovina, country at the crossroads of south and southeast Europe, located in the Balkans. 

Illustrated with a coloured folding map and numerous steel engraved illustrations in text, thirty-one are full page engravings. Collated, complete. With half title.

Condition

Re-backed with the original boards and spine restored. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, general light soiling to the boards and spine, a touch of darkening to the spine. Bookplate to the front pastedown and library bookplate to the front free endpaper, previous ownership inscription to the library bookplate dated 1974. Internally, the hinger are slightly strained, holding firm. The volume firmly bound. With soiling to the endpapers. The pages are generally very clean with a touch of age toning, a usual, and the odd faint handling mark throughout. Illustrated with a coloured folding map and numerous steel engraved illustrations in text, thirty-one are full page engravings. Collated, complete.
