William Henry Barneby's travel work recounting his explorations of North America, Japan, China, and Ceylon. This was an interesting expedition in which Barneby visited Asia for the first time, and provide a first hand account of the changing countries towards the end of the nineteenth century.
Including six appendices discussing the Riel Rebellion, Manitoba, the relationship between the United States and Japan, Japan's constitution, the situation of England in Japan, and more.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few minor marks to the boards and spine. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Author's ink inscription to the half-title and to the plate facing page 196. Plate facing page 202 is detached but present.
