A fascinating late nineteenth-century travelogue narrating the author's, W. Henry Barneby's, journey through North America, China, Japan, and Ceylon. His journey began in Canada and travelled through North America and across the Pacific Ocean to Japan, China and Ceylon.
A presentation copy signed by the author to the half title page and given to his cousin, Susan Talbot, dated 1889.
The first edition of this work.
Including an illustrated frontispiece, a further seven illustrated plates, and three folding maps in colour. The plate opposite page 196 contains handwritten notes from the author.
Collated and complete.
Condition
In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Externally, lovely, with just some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Containing an ink inscription from the author to the title page and to the plate opposite page 196. Internally, firmly bound. A few spots to the first and last few pages, which are otherwise bright and clean.
