The first edition of this work, one of only 50 copies of this size to be printed.

The author's preface bemoans that 'no history of Wellington has hitherto appeared [...] it is difficult to understand why Wellington has been so neglected by topographers, while places of much less historical importance have had justice done to them'.

With chapters on history, folklore, parochial records and the Monmouth rebellion.

Tipped in to the front and rear endpapers are two photographic clippings, one depicting the Wellington parish church, another a carved fireplace at Cothay Manor.
