'Religio de Medici' was first published in 1643 after an unauthorised version the year prior; it immediately became a bestseller in Europe. This is a late nineteenth century edition edited by WA Greenhill. 

A spiritual testament and early psychological self portrait by Sir Thomas Browne, English polymath and influential author of scientific, medicinal, religious, and esoteric works. This work include several unorthodox religious speculations and confirmed the author's belief in the existence of angels and witchcraft.

Condition

Rebound in striking crushed morocco signed Zaehnsdorf, with gilt tooling to spine and boards, gilt to extremities and edges. Marbled endpapers. Externally excellent with only light rubbing to spine. Previous ownership ink inscription to front free endpaper, dated 1950. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
