The scarce first edition. Part of the 'World's Greatest Explorers and Explorations' series by the publisher. Rebound in a smart quarter morocco binding by Maltbys of Oxford. With an illustrated frontispiece, four full page plates, seven colour maps, one of which is folding, and numerous vignette illustrations. Collated complete. An account of the exploration and surveying of the region of Palestine, under the Ottoman Empire. Including the areas of Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem and Galilee. Claude Reignier Conder was an English soldier, explorer and antiquarian and was an active member of the Palestine Exploration Fund whose objective was to survey the topography and ethnography of the Levant region. Complete with the half title page, alongside four pages of advertisements for this series, and four pages of the publisher's other publications to the rear of the book. With a bookplate for one, 'Peter M. Scott', to the front paste-down.

Condition

Rebound in quarter morocco. Externally, excellent with little shelf wear. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned to the edges but otherwise very bright and clean. The odd spot and handling mark throughout. The odd spot to the folding map.
