The very scarce first edition of this Chennai based Reverend's observations on the social life and religious behaviours of the Hindu population of South India in the late nineteenth century.

With twelve illustrated plates. Collated, complete.

With a sixteen page publisher's catalogue to the rear of the work, and the former owner's inscription of Louisa Foord, Christmas 1889 to the front pastedown.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to spine head and tail, slight discolouration to back strip and two marks to front board. Former owner's inscription to front pastedown. Internally, binding somewhat strained towards centre of text block. Pages bright and clean. Some spotting and discolouration to publisher's catalogue at rear.
