Illustrated, with twenty illustrations. The large folding map to the rear is in pristine condition. Collated, complete. Undated. This is the scarce first edition of the work, as later editions state their edition to the printed board. Frederick Arnot (1858-1914) was a Scottish missionary who worked in West Central Africa. This account details his work in the Congo and his dealings with Chief, Msiri of the Garanganze Kingdom in Kantanga, now in the DR Congo. A large map at the rear shows the route taken by Arnot from Benguella to Garanganze. The book is illustrated with 20 illustrations after sketches by the author. This first edition is rare, though subsequent editions retained the pictorial board.
