The first edition. The introduction of this work was first published in 1967 under the title 'A Flora of Herefordshire: Part 1'.
Illustrated with a folding map frontispiece, and three monochrome plates. Collated, complete.
Edited by William Henry Purchas and Augustin Ley. Ley was known for his work collecting, mostly in Herefordshire and along the Welsh borders, and was very knowledgeable on Bryophytes. Purchas was educated at Durham and was also a member of Woolhope Naturalists' Field Club, for which there is a gilt stamp to the boards.

Condition
In the publisher's original cloth. Externally smart with a closed tear to the head of the spine, slight rubbing to the extremities, minor marks to the boards and a faint library location mark to the tail of the spine. 'Plymouth Institution' bookplate to the front pastedown with faint tidemarks to the endpapers. Rear hinge tender after pp. 548. Internally, binding strained in places with plate 2 disbound but present. Pages lightly age toned and generally clean with a library stamp to the title page and verso of the frontispiece.
